In addition to my role as entrepreneur and event planner, I’m also “mama” to a little boy named Henry who was born on February 14, 2021 with Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT).
NAIT is a blood-related disease affecting newborns and mothers. When a mother’s and baby’s blood platelets do not match, it can cause life-threatening issues, including bleeding in the baby’s brain.
Learning Henry had this rare disorder was one of the most terrifying moments in my life. He was in critical condition and required several blood transfusions to save his life while he was just a few days old.
Henry will turn 3 in just a few weeks and is a happy, healthy, silly little boy. He loves to play outside, watch Bluey and dinosaurs. He approaches the world with wonder and he has made me a better business owner, boss and person. And he is alive because of the blood donations others selflessly made.
For the third year in a row, J. Leigh Events is hosting You Are Somebody’s Type, a blood and platelet drive in partnership with OneBlood. On February 14, 2024 OneBlood will have one of their mobile donation stations set up at Promenade on Providence from 11-4 p.m. You can donate and then grab some delicious food or check out the local shops Promenade has to offer.

It’s an honor to plan this event, and we are so grateful to the folks who come each year to donate and save lives. Speaking from personal experience, you have no idea how big your impact can be through this act.
