It’s that time of the year where fall events and places to shop for boots, oversized sweaters, and beanies are the topics of conversation between anyone and everyone chatting with friends over their favorite latte (I’ll have a non-dairy Chai with a shot of espresso, please). But this year is not about lattes! No, no, friend - it’s the season of shopping, scaring, and sharing candy with the family.
And yes, we’re here for it! So, we’re sharing the top family-fun fall events in Charlotte, NC, hosted by our partners, clients, and other groups, too! Check out these upcoming family-friendly, fun, and mildly-frightening fall events near you.
Do the monster-mash at Waverly on October 30, 2021, from 3 PM - 5 PM. Then, enjoy live music from 7–10 PM by Five On Sundays. Here are the details from their Facebook post:
At 3:15 PM, kick things off at PetPeople for a costume parade leading everyone to the terrace. You can dress your children and furry kids in their best costume and march in our parade led by Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent. Once you get to the newly-renovated terrace, grab a JJ’s Hotdogs for $1! For the first 500 guests, a $1 donation will go to a local animal charity. Then, take a chance at giveaways and do the monster-mash while the DJ spins your favorite spooky tunes! Kids, pets, and adults dressed in costume can join our parade and costume contest!
Costume contest categories: Pet costumes (no human costume), Kid costumes (without a pet), Adult (without a pet), Best pet & owner costume, Best family/group costume. Check-in and register for the costume contest from 3 PM - 4:30 PM. Winners will be announced at 4:45 PM.
From 7-10 PM, bring a chair or grab a spot in The Terrace and dance the night away with friends and neighbors with music by Five on Sundays! Check the Facebook event page HERE for weather updates!
Imagine heading out for some shopping while the family trick-or-treats. Then, enjoying hot apple cider while watching Casper the Friendly Ghost and his funny uncles. Luckily, Promenade on Providence is now calling all goblins, ghosts, superheroes, and princesses to join them on Friday, October 22, 2021, for a night of Trick-or-Treating and a showing of Casper on The Green. Trick-or-Treating is 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM. The movie starts at 7:15 PM. Sign up here to join the fun!
Need a place for dinner or dessert? Grab takeout or dine in at one of their excellent restaurants! Leashed and friendly pets are welcome.
Speaking of Promenade, get ready for Shallow Graves, Theater Charlotte’s Live Murder Mystery Experience - children, friends, and family welcome (but babies and toddlers might need to sit this one out)! The live experience meets the grave on The Green at Promenade on Providence on October 21st and 28th and Camp North End on October 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th. Participants meet the suspects, gather clues, and solve the mysterious murder of Grimbsy Grave in the immersive experience led by Theater Charlotte’s murder mystery team.
Haunted houses might be a bit much for some people (**raises hand**), so Shallow Grave is the perfect activity for people who prefer fun over fear. Solving murder mysteries sounds more fun than scary, right?
Did someone say candy crawl? Yep, it was Camp North End! If you can’t get tickets for their Shallow Grave Murder Mystery on the 29th, check out the FREE candy crawl and pop-up shopping at Camp North End from 6 - 8 PM. While the kids grab handfuls of candy, you get a head start on holiday shopping from 10+ vendors (#winwin). Also, dressing up is not just for kids. So, why not do some shopping in a super cool costume? Learn more about the event here.
When it comes to fall events with the family, go big, or go back to medieval times! Which you can do at The Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville. Rain or shine, your family can watch live shows, shop at the artisan marketplace, and enjoy a feast for the kingdom (but they do have lattes, just saying)! The festival is at the “Village of Fairhaven” on Saturdays and Sundays from October 2 - November 2021. You can learn more about the Renaissance Festival and purchase tickets here.
